Summary: This work explores up to what extent the integration of literature into the EFL syllabus can be beneficial to the learners’ linguistic development. The pedagogical proposal takes the form of a weekly course, in which Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby will be explored in three main dimensions: historical context, content and topics present, and its relevance for society today. The essence of this project is to stimulate students to read literary works in English in order to increase their love for literature, and incidentally, their knowledge about English.
