Summary: This paper is an explanatory study which attempts to examine the potential of portfolios as pedagogical devices; the benefits of using it as an assessment tool, the use in the classroom as an auxiliary tool and the interaction that a digital portfolio provides among the different members of the educational system. Furthermore, as a result of this research a pedagogical proposal that fosters the use of digital portfolios is offered for teachers interested in bringing technology to their teaching practices.
